Tommy Coopers Fez for sale

£4k – Tommy Cooper’s Fez is For Sale

A comedy icon of the 20th century, Tommy Cooper became synonymous with a fez (he's even mentioned here on the Wikipedia page about the fez) and thus the opportunity to own one of a small number he owned throughout his career is rare indeed.  We don't tend to cover the sale of too many celebrity owned items, props from films etc but occasionally things come up for sale which are unusually iconic and in our opinion this is one of them.

Hailing from Wales, Tommy was a very well known comedian both in the UK and further afield.  Indeed it's understood he first became known for wearing a fez during a trip to Cairo to entertain British troops during the Second World War.  Legend has it that he lost his army-issued helmet and instead borrowed a fez from a waiter at the venue.  The comedic effect of a small red hat on his 6' 3″ frame certainly endured as it remained his trademark during a career lasting right up to his death in 1984.  Sadly, he passed away whilst on stage in London but his energetic style of delivering failed magic tricks remains utterly entertaining to this day (just search for him on Youtube if you want to brighten up your day).

If you loved Tommy Cooper as much as we do but you're unsure about the significance or value of owning a fez owned by him, it's worth noting that the prestigious V&A Museum in London has one on display.  Whether to show in your home or perhaps as a unique talking point behind the bar in your man cave, this fez is sure to bring a smile to the face of anyone who sees it.
