Probably one of the most unusual things to be offered for sale recently, the iconic 'Pooh Sticks' bridge is going to auction with Summers Place Auctions soon.
Yes, the original bridge as featured in A.A. Milne's hugely popular Winne the Pooh books could be yours – with a guide price of £40k to £60k although how one accurately values such an object is beyond us! It could feasibly be sold at a much higher price.
The bridge was the setting for the birth of the game of 'Pooh Sticks', as since played by children (and adults) across the world and is thus historically significant from both literary and societal perspectives.
The auctioneer explains the carved oak bridge '..has now been fully restored and reconstructed using local oak for any missing elements with each piece numbered, together with drawings and an analysis, prepared by the council on original/replaced elements'.
We eagerly await the auction as it feels like such a rare and incredibly unique item to be sold. Best of luck if you decide to bid for it and if you're the winning bidder, let us know where its new home will be.
